Mathany and BJP

(LtE, GT, 16/02/2012)
The opinion titled 'Mathany and BJP' by Geraldo Oliveira (GT, 15/02/2012)
attempts to create a larger than life picture of this politician who is the Goan
politician model of contradictions, opportunism and selfishness. It cannot be
forgotten that it was Manohar Parrikar who was the architect for clashing the
IFFI dates with the novenas of St. Francis Xavier, and it was the severe
reaction from the Hindu community from Old Goa and surrounding villages that
compelled Parrikar to do a rethink on scrapping the holiday. To claim that BJP
is the alternative to Save Goa is ignorance of politics in India. Is the BJP in
Goa a sort of franchisee for the national BJP as some BJP leader attempts to
propagate in Panjim? If the Socialists with all their pro-people slogans cannot
be seen to provide a corruption free and humane governance, what is this false
hope that Geraldo tries to entice Goans into by projecting the BJP? Mathany
cannot be a model for the young activist fraternity in Goa.
