Cabinet approves scheme to lease out unused government buildings, land TNN | Sep 19, 2013, 05.43 AM IST PANAJI: The state cabinet on Wednesday approved a scheme to provide government land and unused government buildings to registered cultural, social, educational institutions, professional institutions, etc. Briefing mediapersons, chief minister Manohar Parrikar said that religious organizations will not be eligible for this scheme and that only cultural associations or professional organizations like the bar association, company secretaries' association or chartered accountants' associations will be eligible to apply. The education department will be the nodal department to implement this scheme. Parrikar said that out of the 1,100 government primary schools, only about 800 are functioning, so the vacant schools can be leased out to interested parties at a nominal rent. A committee chaired by the chief secretary will scrutinize the applications. The organization applying for allotment of unused government buildings will be eligible for about 200 square metres of building space and about 2,000 square metres of land area under the scheme. The organization will be responsible for the maintenance of the premises. Part of the objective of the scheme is that the vacant, unused buildings and land, which would otherwise remain vulnerable to nature's elements, will be properly maintained. Also, encroachments on government unutilized land will be prevented this way. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Cabinet-approves-scheme-to-lease-out-unused-government-buildings-land/articleshow/22734660.cms
