CSJP objects to GSIDC's master plan for Panaji (ToI)

Council for social justice and peace objects to Goa infrastructure development body's masterplan for Panaji TNN | Aug 13, 2013, 03.00 AM IST PANAJI: The council for social justice and peace (CSJP) has objected to the Goa state infrastructure development corporation (GSIDC) drawing up the master plan for the development of Panaji, claiming that it is an infringement of the democratic rights of the Corporation of the city of Panaji (CCP). The church body also stated that the draft plan should be made easily available to the concerned citizens for scrutiny and suggestions. In a letter to chief minister, the church body reminded Manohar Parrikar of the provisions of the 74th Constitutional amendment which bestows on each local self-government the democratic right and duty to be responsible for the administration and development of the area under its jurisdiction. "The CCP is legally entitled to formulate any plans for the improvement of all civic services to the citizens of the city." the CSJP argued, also stating that the GSIDC is not a planning authority." Acknowleding that the CCP is not technically competent to draw any development plan for the city, the CSJP stressed that it is the duty of the government to appoint the town and country planning department to assist the CCP in formulating the necessary plan. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Council-for-social-justice-and-peace-objects-to-Goa-infrastructure-development-bodys-masterplan-for-Panaji/articleshow/21790555.cms
