Mining Trucks- Eligibility norms relaxed (Herald)

Eligibility norms relaxed August 1, 2013 TEAM HERALD PANJIM: The Goa government has now decided to relax the eligibility criteria of truck owners for getting dole by extending the scheme to trucks registered all over the State. The Cabinet also relaxed the documentation such as PF and ESI proof required to disburse mining relief schemes, Wednesday. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar announced that the relaxation for the earlier notified documentation was necessary as many of the affected workers did not have ESI and Provident Fund and most were on contract. “Employment figures indicate that no proper procedures were followed,” Parikar told media. Till date around 3,500 truck owners have benefited from the scheme with around 6,800 applications being received. Around 700-800 applications have been rejected. The entire process of the relief scheme distribution will be completed by August-end, chief minister said. He also stressed that some sort of documentary proof would have to be given to the screening committee to avail benefits under mining unemployment scheme. This committee would have to verify the details and ensure that conditions are met before disbursing benefit under the scheme. Parrikar said, “applicants will somehow have to prove that they were working in mining or allied services for the past three years”. He said if the case is genuine the Committee could relax some conditions. There is no change in the scheme except waiving of the need to produce proof of ESI and PF, Parrikar said.
