PANJIM: The Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), which has been assigned the task of studying the carrying capacity of roads in Goa with the vehicular population in 2030 in mind, is likely to submit its report by September 2013.
The road master plan supposed to have been ready by December 2010, has been in limbo since it kicked off in 2009.
As per the agreement, the CRRI team was due to submit a preliminary report suggesting short-term measures by March 2010, and a final report with provisions to last till 2030, by December 2010.
Speaking to media persons on Friday, Director Transport Arun Dessai said that CRRI team had sought time till September end to submit their report. He said that the agency has been directed to prepare a traffic management plan for the State for the next 25 years.
Government’s association with CRRI is a ‘long term understanding’ to draw up a traffic plan for the State, Dessai said. The total cost of the project if Rs 60 lakh.
According to the agreement, the entire study was scattered over 15 months, of which 6 months were required for short term study, which will study the traffic timing, vehicles speed, flow of traffic, parking, length and the width of the road and other aspects while the balance period would speak about the long term measures. Rs 30 lakh have been already paid to the agency.
Transport Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar during the recent Budget Session had informed the State Legislative Assembly that no last date for the submission of CRRI report has been specified. Dhavalikar said the CRRI is also supposed to estimate the future traffic mobility in Goa and develop a transport system plan along with the identification of infrastructure to accomplish the plan implementation.
