PANAJI: Goa State Pollution Control Board will collect real time air quality data from Panaji city from April, a senior official said today.
"Real time data would be collected using ambient air quality monitoring stations," board chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said.
The stations would be installed across the city, mostly at crowded places such as markets and bus stand.
The project, costing around Rs 1.2 crore, would be the first ever pollution checking initiative in the city by the board that has been already monitoring the air quality in cities like Vasco, home to Mormugao Port Trust.
"This will measure the air pollutants like PM5, PM10, ozone, ammonia and will provide update on wind speed, wind directions, etc," he said.
The project is a part of the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) scheme, and infrastructure expenses will be shared between the state and the Centre on 50:50 basis.

Panajiites to get real time data of air quality from April
PANAJI: Residents of Panaji will soon get to see real time data
of quality of air as Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) is set to
procure stationary and mobile Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring
Station (CAAQMS).
Costing Rs 1.85 crore, these stations will be in place by the month of April. The main objective behind monitoring the ambient air quality is to draw an action plan for pollution abatement in Panaji city.
Recognising the need to monitor real time and peak concentration levels of critical air pollutants, GSPCB will install the station near Kadamba bus stand and one portable mobile station will be taken out to record air pollutants during any major events or upon receiving any complaint. The machines will measure parameters like carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, ozone, particulate matters (PM10 & PM2.5) and meteorological parameters like wind speed, wind direction, temperature, relative humidity and solar radiation.
Speaking to this daily, GSPCB chairman Jose Noronha said that all analysers will work round-the-clock and real time data will be put into the public domain regularly and continuously and will also be displayed at outside station as well as on the website of the board.
