Religion treated like a comodity (Soter)

Religion treated like a commodity
Some of the views expressed on how the Church should change according to the times, after Cardinal Gracias' views on LGBT, gives an impression that religion is now being treated like a commodity which needs to focus on customer satisfaction if it is to remain popular with the consumer.
Whether the very concept of Church is understood by some of those criticizing it is not clear. Then, how and to what extent does one compromise on universal truths and principles to appease the growing consumer mentality of followers needs to also be decided. Unfortunately, there is more of an obsession in condemning what is out-dated in the Church than practicing what is right in what the Church is teaching. Should a spiritual path challenge one to a realization so as to rise above worldly ways, or should it help one to feel comfortable in adopting what is market savvy?
