CM acknowledges continuance of police-drug peddler nexus (Herald)

PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Thursday told the House that there are still allegations of police-drug peddler nexus and these were being investigated.

“There are several allegations on police-drug peddler nexus and these are being investigated by the government,” Parsekar said, while replying to the cut motion moved by the Opposition over failure of government to curb drug menace in the State.
The chief minister said government was trying to curb the drug menace and has had historic seizure of narcotics during last year. “We are trying to curb the drug menace and we will ensure that innocent (person) is not hanged,” he assured. Parsekar informed the House that the total drug seizure for 2014-15 has surpassed the seizures in the past.
Responding to the Opposition charge of some organizations trying to create communal disharmony, the chief Minister said that in past three years, there has not been a single case of communal violence in the State. 
“Goa is a state where people of all religions and castes live in peace and harmony. This scenario is highly applauded across the country,” he said.
Tabling the statistics pertaining to various crimes, the chief minister said that there is substantial decline in number of cases and rise in crime detection, this year compared to 2013-14. A total of 1418 cases were reported with 618 detections in the ongoing year, while the number was on the higher side in 2013-14 with 1742 cases reported and 608 detections.
As per the figures, for 2014-15, a total of 27 murder cases were reported of which 18 are detected as against 36 cases and 29 detections in 2013-14. Total 79 rape cases were reported and 73 are detected this year while the number was 95 and 90 respectively, last year.
This year, six dacoities were reported of which five are detected, whereas for 2013-14 total 16 cases were reported with cent percent detection. The theft cases reported were 971 of which 375 are detected this year, while 1157 cases were reported and 345 cases were detected in the previous year.
Police reported 299 house break cases of which 109 are detected this year as against 406 reported and 104 detections in the previous year.
