PANJIM:
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Monday admitted that creating
50,000 jobs by 2017, was a difficult task. Parsekar said that the IT
Habitat at Kadamba plateau and electronic city at Tuem would both
generate around 10,000 jobs initially.
“Practically,
it is not possible to create 50,000 jobs by 2017. But we are slowly
working to create maximum jobs,” Parsekar said.
The
chief minister said the government is focusing only on setting up
industrial units that are eco-friendly and job oriented for Goans. “We
are currently identifying interested investors and simultaneously
working on creation of infrastructure facilities such as road
connectivity, 24x7 water and power supply, broad band connectivity,
etc,” Parsekar said, acknowledging that government faced difficulties of
limited land and infrastructure.
“We
want only those industries on priority that will provide jobs to
educate Goan youth. We don’t want to create a labour force,” he told the
media at the sidelines of inauguration of new State Information
Commission’s office Monday. He also said that the existing industrial
units are expanding, and so jobs would be created.
The
government will focus on Information Technology and pharmaceutical
industries, in the first phase of industrial development, Parsekar said.
He reasoned that though there were proposals for setting up new
industrial units, all would not be considered at one time, considering
the scarcity of land, infrastructure limitations and lack of ‘Goan
employee-oriented industries’.
He
also said that the process to seek NOCs from the concerned departments
such as forest, TCP, PWD for the IT Habitat and electronic city has
commenced.
