PANJIM: The representatives of the entertainment industry have decided to ask the Goa government to scrap the single-window system for all Goan events involving live bands with immediate effect.
The reason they have alleged is that the single window system would depriving lakhs of Goans who survive and earn their livelihood through these local events, working as musicians, event managers, sound n light contractors, comperes, dancers etc.
The entertainers and musicians came together to form a common platform to raise their issues at Nuvem.
“Being major stakeholders in the local tourism industry, the first preference should be given to Goan musicians, sound and light contractors, comperes, event managers, dancers, restaurateurs etc for any events organised by the Goa Government, Tourism Department, Art and Culture Department and Goa Tourism Development Corporation,” the statement said adding that events include food and cultural festivals, carnival extravaganzas, heritage festivals, wine festivals, film festivals and road shows and other promotional activities held within and outside Goa to promote Goa as a destination.
“These events are very important to maintain and encourage Goa’s rich, musical and cultural heritage, besides being affordable to Goans. It’s only at such events that Goan musicians get an opportunity to showcase their talent to fellow goans,” Musician Ashley Fernandes said in a statement. Those present, have elected an ad hoc committee to register the body as an Association.
President – Louella (Lulu) Fortes, Vice-President – Rousell Miranda, General Secetary – Ashley Fernandes, Joint Secretary – Godfrey Gomes, Treasurer – Anthony D’Souza
