PANJIM: Though Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar announced his intentions of making Goa an attractive industrial destination, of the 1216 new industrial units approved by the government in the last two years, only 36 could start operation upto January 2014.
Further, even as Parrikar said that 50,000 jobs would be created in the reeling industrial sector, five years from the implementation of State Industrial Policy, the sector generated 9864 jobs, while 298 workers lost their jobs during March 2012 to January 2014.
The information was provided by Industries Minister Mahadev Naik while replying to the questions tabled by Congress legislators Vishwajit Rane and Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco.
Naik said that of the total 1216 industries, 1190 fall under micro, small and medium enterprises and 26 are large industries. Similarly, 23 large and 13 micro, small and medium industries have started their operations, investing Rs 413 crore in the state. All projects have been approved by the state government’s high powered coordination committee (HPCC).
In case of employment, 6303 people are employed in the micro, small and medium enterprises and the balance 3561 in the large scale sector. Naik said that as per the Goa State Employment Subsidy Scheme, 2008, the manufacturing units employing 80 percent locals are given subsidy on salaries paid to their employees.
Informing the house about future development plans for the industrial sector, the minister said efforts are on to make single window clearance more effective and to make the Directorate of Industries, trade and Commerce a nodal agency for getting clearances for investors.
Goa Industries Development Corporation (GIDC) has also proposed to increase the FAR from 1:1 to 1:1:5 in the IDC notified areas.
Naik said that government is working on continuously supplying raw water and natural gas industrial estates to meet the resources needs. Plans are afoot to install power plants to meet increasing power demand of industries and to promote non-industrial cluster for sectors such as cashew nuts, gold, etc.
