Rising crime is cause to worry: Governor (ToI)

PANAJI: Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo has said that while on the social front, the state continues to maintain overall peace and harmony, there was an unfortunate increase in incidents of crime, especially against children and women.
"It should be our concern to arrest and control such socially-undesirable incidents, for which the cooperation and support of the people is essential," he said in his message to the people on the eve of the New Year.
Recently, in view of recent thefts reported from various places in the state on Monday, Goa police issued an advisory to the general public about what needs to be done to stay safe in Goa.
Wishing people of Goa a happy, healthy and prosperous future, the governor said, the year just gone-by witnessed many notable achievements and important events in the state of Goa.
He said Goa joined the national mainstream in celebrating various national occasions besides important state occasions with patriotic spirit and enthusiasm. On the developmental front, Goa continued to strive to achieve a higher rate of progress. On the social front, the state continued to maintain overall peace and harmony.
He also applauded the government for having made elaborate arrangements for the successful conduct of the 44th International film festival of India, the feast of St Francis Xavier and many other events that took place in the state.
