Now, FIR against persons not informing on tenants (ToI)

PANAJI: Landlords, property owners and persons dealing in property in south Goa who rent out or sell property could face one month's imprisonment if they fail to provide information about the tenants and purchasers of property to the local police station.
South Goa collector N D Agrawal has authorized the district police to file FIRs against landlords, tenants, owners of any houses or properties, persons dealing in property in south Goa if they lease out premises or sell property without informing the respective police station.
The order was issued after the south Goa police superintendent reported to the collector that landlords and tenants are renting premises to criminals, anti-social elements and strangers without proper verification by the local police.
"The SP, south Goa, the SDPO of Margao, Quepem, Mormugao and the police inspector of the respective police stations are hereby authorized to file FIR on behalf of the state in the court if any persons found contravening the above order which shall be punishable under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code," Agrawal said in the order.
Section 188 of the IPC refers to disobedience of an order promulgated by a public servant and carries a punishment of simple imprisonment for up to a month or fine which may extend to 200, or both.
