PANJIM: The Government is set to implement the amended Goa Land (Prohibition on Construction) Act 1995, under which all the old encroachments on Comunidade and government land would be regularized while new constructions would be demolished, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the State Legislative Assembly on Friday.
Parrikar also said that as per the new amendment, notification of which was issued on September 30, action would be initiated against the competent officer responsible for not taking action against the illegalities, if he fails to act even after receiving the complaint.
The amendments also specified that construction material found “dumped, piled or kept in the land belonging to the government, a local authority or a Comunidade” would be attached, unless the person has written permission from the authorities, he said.
The Chief Minister was replying to the private member’s resolution moved by Pratapsing Rane, who demanded immediate action against illegal constructions under the said Act along with making a thorough survey of such constructions on government and Comunidade land.
Parrikar said directions would be issued to officers concerned to identify and maintain record of government and Comunidade lands. He said that the partial implementation of the Act has already commenced and accordingly around 40 illegal constructions were demolished in South Goa.
Earlier, Rane pointed out that government has no record about the non-utilized government and Comunidade lands, which are now illegally occupied. He demanded a thorough inspection of the lands. The resolution was withdrawn by Rane following the chief minister’s assurance.
