CM: Govt just a catalyst for social change -Herald

February 11, 2013 TEAM HERALD MARGAO: Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar has asserted that government alone cannot bring about a change in the society, but can only act as a catalyst. Speaking at the concluding function of the three-day Goa Saraswat festival at the BPS Club here on Sunday, Parrikar said society has to help itself and that the government can only speed up certain things and give proper directions. Touching on the crimes against women, Parrikar said that what is actually happening is not exactly a law and order problem, but the situation has helped parents to deal with the emerging problem. “After the Nirbhaya’s incident in Delhi, parents have come to know the dangers prevailing for our children,” he said. The time has come now for parents to closely interact with children. This is a matter of caution for everyone”, he said. Parrikar lamented over negative attitudes emerging in the society since the last 2-3 years. “We should leave behind our negativism and be positive in the interest of the state. It’s not just the Chief Minister, but all people should join hands to make the society better”, he said. The Chief Minister likened the government during the last seven years as an engine which was like a solid block. “The wheels were not moving as everyone was only making money. But, during the last one year, I have tried to move the bureaucracy and clear the fog around us”, adding “Goans will soon realise their capabilities and the day is not far when Goa will become a Golden Goa”. http://www.oheraldo.in/News/Local%20News/CM-Govt-just-a-catalyst-for-social-change/70599.html
