Sentiments betrayed?
Sentiments betrayed?
This refers to Fr. Mousinho Athaide’s interview ‘BJP Betrayed Me’ (Herald June10, 2012) There is no reason for Fr. Athaide to feel betrayed as expressed in this interview. It has been reported that Mr. Parrikar discussed his solution with BBSM leaders the day before going public. And if Fr. Athaide was not invited to that meeting, it is a cause for introspection. Sentiments for regional language are one thing and politics of language is quite another. If the priest has lent himself to be used by divisive forces like BBSM and BJP to give the movement a secular colour, it is unfair for him to complain of betrayal. Who should have known better about what is genuine and what is fake. The priest has himself to blame and not Mr. Parrikar or BJP.
