Do not be fooled by odd-even gambles
The Kejriwal rhetoric at election rallies in Goa sounds more like that of US President Donald Trump. We should not be surprised if AAP also declares that it will build walls and erect barbed wire fences along Goa's borders to block migrants from entering the State. Is his promise that "all public decisions will be made by public" practical and realistic? So like Jallikattu, will the ethical aspects of dhirio in Goa be decided by mob sentiments under AAP rule?
The problem is that we have Goa's urban-elitist citizens infected with a shopping mall mindset which chases after novelty, glamour and populism. So concepts like 'Mohalla Sabhas" and "Mohalla Clinics" in Delhi appear fascinating for such Goans but are they really needed in Goa? If yes, then what happens to the traditional concept of 'ganvponn' and 'gaumkari' with the implants of these North Indian mohalla culture?
Goans need to take a cue from Pope Francis' recent concerns about the rise in 'Populism' in Europe with the rise of Hitler in the 1930's. We do not need politicians who promise Goa to be made into a Delhi, Singapore, Shangai, Bangkok or Thailand. We need politicians who are sensitive to preserving and promoting what is traditionally and uniquely Goan. Goans should not be fooled by odd-even gambles. Let us not promote the political disease itself as the cure.
