PANJIM/PONDA: First, he did not want pubs; then he spoke out against a ban on bigot Pramod Muthalik of the right wing Sri Ram Sene; after that he wanted a ban on bikinis. Now, the PWD minister Sudin Dhavalikar has clearly come out against foreign tourists being allowed into this tourist centric State.
“I don’t want tourism to be increased in Goa,” he said referring to foreign tourists and arguing, “Let us be very frank because after all our sisters and daughters (referring to local tourists) go to see the beaches and enjoy the beaches and all. And in this place if there are foreigners who come and if they want to go in bikinis, then they should go to private beaches,” he said.
“Many tourists go to the beaches. Many do not like this,” he said adding, “Some tourists drink and go to the beach and then they can touch (these foreigners). Then who is going to control this especially if there are no police or guides. There is so much of increase in tourists. In time, it will be very difficult for the police to control.”
The PWD minister also said that he supported the statement of Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik that pub culture in Goa should be closed down but also said that there was no need for him to come to Goa to close them down.
“Pub culture is not Indian and therefore I am against it and opposing it. Not a single Goan would like to see his sister, or daughter, relative dance in the pub. We Goans should oppose this culture as no parents, brothers or man would like to see their daughter, sister dance in pub obscenely dressed,” he said.
Dhavalikar also said that in pubs they drink and do ‘danga tuka’ and then fight.
“They dance and do danga tuka and then fight,” explaining the term as 4-5 pegs.
Taking on women organizations, he argued that they did not know what he had said arguing, “What I have said is that I am against pub sanskruthi. And another thing is that I feel is that bikinis should be banned in Goa.”
“If the Goa government cannot tackle such things then he will come and take law and order (in his own hands). Then it is a problem,” he warned the government referring to Muthalik.
“I sincerely feel that we should stop pub sansruthi and we should attach (adopt) to Bharat sanskruthi,” he said.
