Just 6 of 40 MLAs file statements of assets TNN | Jul 31, 2013, 05.00 AM IST PANAJI: August 1 is the last day for elected representatives, ministers, MLAs and sarpanchas to file statements of assets and liabilities before Lokayukta, but so far only six MLAs have filed their statements of assets and liabilities. Leader of opposition Pratapsing Rane, MLA Vishwajit Rane and power minister Milind Naik are among those six who complied with the requirement. When public functionaries failed to file their statements by June 30 Lokayukta had extended the deadline till August 1. So that all elected representatives such as MLAs, sarpanchas, zilla panchayat presidents submit their statements on time. But with only a day left to the deadline six of the forty MLAs had filed their statements on Tuesday. Including the 40 MLAs, over 500 public functionaries will require to submit their statements before the Lokayukta in Goa. A source said there is no intention of granting any further extension to public functionaries who have missed the deadline. "Since we had already given them an extension earlier we see no reason why it should be given again," he said. He said as per provisions in the Goa Lokayukta Act, if no such statement is received by the Lokayukta from any such public functionary within the specified time, the next course of action for the Lokayukta is to make a report to the competent authority, with a copy marked to the public functionary concerned.
