It rained every day this July in goa (ToI)

It rained every day this July in goa Paul Fernandes, TNN | Aug 1, 2013, 01.13 AM IST PANAJI: The sun emerged only briefly through the clouds in July. The constant rain battered roofs and roads, and brought down trees. It is not surprising that the month ended as the wettest July after 18 years. It rained every single day in July and there were no dry spells. The meteorological centre recorded a rainfall of 1,387.8mm (54.6 inches) last month in the city. "This is the highest rainfall in July after 1,526.1mm (60.8 inches) was recorded in 1995," meteorological centre director K V Singh said. The hinterland areas were literally under a deluge throughout the month. A few coastal areas, especially Panaji received rainfall on a lesser scale. "The city witnessed very heavy rainfall of 127.1mm only on July 3, while there was nine days of heavy rain," Singh said. The fury of the rain is reflected in the statistics. In other parts of Goa, very heavy rainfall was recorded on eight days and heavy to very heavy rainfall on 11 days. The state witnessed widespread and very heavy rainfall on July 3. It turned out to be the wettest day of the month as all centres, barring Canacona with 122.6mm, received rainfall above 124.5mm while Sanguem recorded the highest rainfall of 215.9mm (8.5 inches) the same day. Rainfall between 64.5mm and 124.4mm is considered heavy and above 124.5mm is considered very heavy. The only time the city recorded rainfall below 10mm was 4.6mm on July 15, 7.3mm on July 30, and 9mm on July 16. On other days, the rainfall was moderate to rather heavy. In the past, July 2000 was another notably rainy month with 1,361.7mm of rainfall and July 2010 with 1,245.5mm. July 2012 last year was poor with just 616.0mm of rain. "This year, the monsoon was very active and there was heavy to very heavy rainfall in some or other part of the state," Singh said. tnn http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/It-rained-every-day-this-July-in-goa/articleshow/21517715.cms
