Govt seeks Central fund for four tourism projects July 11, 2013 TEAM HERALD PANJIM: Goa is eyeing four major projects for development of tourism in Anjuna, Selaulim, Mayem and Fatorda, if the Union ministry sanctions the Rs 400 crore package sought by the Goa tourism ministry. It is learnt that the tourism ministry on Tuesday placed before the union tourism ministry proposals for tourism projects, two each in the north and south districts of Goa. The 1,400 to 2000 seater Convention Centre at Fatorda which could cost around Rs 25 crore is one of the projects proposed for South Goa. The project proposes to have three floors with gaming zones, adventure activities, parking and the convention hall. Similarly development of 2 lakh square meters of land near Selaulim dam for tourism water sports and adventure activities is the second proposal being chalked out for South Goa. The two projects in North Goa include that of developing 1.60 lakh square meters land at Anjuna for recreational purpose and construction of villas and hotels. At Mayem Lake, the plan is to develop 1.36 lakh square meters of land for tourism development on Malaysian and Singapore tourism modules. This is slated to cost Rs 210 crore. “All the four projects would together cost around Rs 400 crore,” Parulekar said pointing out that the Goa tourism ministry will be meeting with the Centre again next week to submit project details to facilitate working out of funding patterns accordingly. The Goa tourism development corporation, in its last meeting has already approved the proposals. The tourism ministry is also proposing hostel accommodation on around 75,000 sqm of land at Anjuna through joint ventures In addition smaller tourism development project for Colva, Mangueshi, Pernem, Benaulim, Calangute, Sanguem, Divar, Kavlem and Mardol are also on the charts.
