PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Friday said that the half of the government officials would be behind bars if he starts investigating the scams committed during the erstwhile Congress regime. He also accused former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat of totally destroying the administration so as to perpetuate corruption, and accused the current Opposition party of raising issues against the state government in order to mint money.
The government has been facing accusations of not promptly following up on corruption issues and that no big timer has gone to jail – including among the bureaucrats - even though one of the planks that the BJP came to power on was corruption by the erstwhile government
“I initially I thought that the first sin of Kamat was corruption. But I was wrong, the first sin was total destruction of the administration,” Parrikar said.
“There is virtually no local officer who is not involved in the illegalities during Congress regime. They were involved in the scams like recruitment where they have signed the documents under minister pressure,” Chief Minister said.
“If I am harsh, then half of the officers will go to jail. They will face criminal action,” the chief minister said, adding that he had to take almost one and half year after assuming charge to get the administration working. The erstwhile government had created a liability of Rs 1,500 crore when BJP led government took over the reigns of the state. “There was no money even to pay the salaries of the government servants when I took over,” Parrikar claimed.
Parrikar said that he will expose all the sinister designs due to various allegations made by Congress party against his government.
Parrikar has already handed over the recruitment scams, which allegedly occurred during previous government regime, to vigilance department for investigation.
