Finally, Margao sewerage project to get a big boost July 15, 2013 CM to lay foundation stone today TEAM HERALD MARGAO: Finally, Margao’s long pending ambitious sewerage project will receive a big boost with the government bracing up to execute works totalling Rs 75 crore under JICA, covering the main town and balance areas of the Margao’s southern side. Besides, the a 7.5 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) will be built at the existing STP at Sirvodem at a whopping cost of Rs 20 crore under JICA. The project will cover an area of 40 km, including the areas of Gandhi Market, Old District Collectorate, parts of Housing Board, Gogol and the Colmorod area. Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar will lay the foundation stone for the project on Monday noon and the entire project is expected to be completed within two years. Sources in the Goa Sewerage Development Corporation informed that JICA will fund the entire project, including laying the 40 km underground line, besides the 7.5 MLD treatment plant. Meanwhile, work on the Rs 120 crore project to lay the sewage underground line in the areas of Malbhat, Aquem, Vidhyanagar and parts of Housing Board is expected to be completed by March. The work undertaken by the Goa government will cover an area of 55 km right from the Housing Board to Malbhat. In another development on Margao sewerage front, work on the Rs 30 crore micro-tunnelling project linking the underground line from the railway line to the Sirvodem sewage treatment plant has got underway. Goa Sewerage Development Corporation Managing Director Arvind Patil has said that the project has carried out the tunnelling work at the Rawanfond railway crossing, adding that work on the ESI-Apollo Victor hospital tunnelling will get underway soon.
