12-yr-old girl foils kidnap attempt July 19, 2013 TEAM HERALD PORVORIM: Quick thinking by a 12-year-old schoolgirl foiled attempts by two youth to kidnap her from a school in Guirim during recess on Thursday morning. This is the third such case of an attempt to abduct schoolgirls in Bardez Taluka since January. According to Mapusa Police, the parents of the girl complained that that the incident had occurred at about 11 am, when the girl had come out the school to play during recess. Police informed that two youth came in a van and one of them opened the door and tried to pull the girl into the van. However, the girl managed to escape from the clutches of the two youth and ran into the school. The culprits then fled from the site, while the terrified girl narrated the incident to her teachers. The teachers then reported the matter to the parents of the girl, who later filed a police complaint. Police admitted that there is no compound wall at the school and added that no one had noted down the registration number of the vehicle. Mapusa police is investigating the case. Earlier on January 18, an 11-year-old schoolgirl foiled attempts by a stranger to kidnap her while she was proceeding home from a school in Bardez. The schoolgirl was walking towards her house, when an unknown person in a Maruti van stopped in front of her and offered to drop her home. When the child refused, the caught hold of her hand and tried to pull her into the van. The girl, however, managed to break free and ran towards a woman. Later on June 28, two youth attempted to sexually assault a 14-year-old SSC student at Tivim, when the girl was proceeding home after attending classes. The two youth, who were hiding behind a stationary rickshaw, grabbed her and tried to forcibly put some drink in her mouth.
