NGPDA to revise parking rules for buildings (ToI)

After Friday fiasco, North Goa planning and development authority to revise parking rules for buildings TNN | Jun 8, 2013, 05.42 AM IST PANAJI: The North Goa planning and development authority (NGPDA) will revise its rules related to parking and other conditions for granting construction permissions to new buildings. Replying to questions on how the NGPDA had cleared a hotel construction site in St Inez where parking facilities seemed totally inadequate and hill cutting had been undertaken, NGPDA chairman Michael Lobo on Friday said that the NGPDA had given a construction license to the hotel based on its existing rules. "We clear projects as per the rule book," he said. The CCP has often been saying that it is helpless on such issues as the projects are first cleared by the NGPDA and then sent to the corporation. When this was pointed out to Lobo that the NGPDA was routinely approving such controversial projects without heeding municipal council objections, he said the NGPDA would relook its rules and "modify them where required". He said cities like Panaji were getting congested and new buildings needed to have proper parking facilities. Lobo said a taskforce on the matter had been formed and comprised the chief minister, himself being NGPDA chairman, the member secretary of NGPDA, the chief town planner and two members of the TCP department. He further said the revised rules would be ready in the next 2-3 months. Former Panaji mayor Yatin Parekh said the CCP should halt all commercial constructions in Panaji till new rules on parking are in place. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/After-Friday-fiasco-North-Goa-planning-and-development-authority-to-revise-parking-rules-for-buildings/articleshow/20487317.cms
