Government deliberating penalties for public littering (ToI)

Government deliberating penalties for public littering, Goa environment minister says Murari Shetye, TNN | Jun 5, 2013, 01.43 PM IST PANAJI: The idea to levy fines on those who litter streets and public places in Goa is yet to gain momentum even after it was launched few months back, said Goa forest and environment minister AlinaSaldanha, adding that unless the government puts all the facilities in place they cannot impose fines. Speaking to mediapersons, Saldanha said the modalities of implementing the idea to impose fines on those who litter public places are still being worked out. "If the public become concerned about their responsibility that they should not litter public places, then half the problem is solved," she said adding that awareness and sense of responsibility is very important to stop public littering. The state monitoring cum working committee for solid waste management has been formed to implement collection of fines for littering on an experimental basis. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Government-deliberating-penalties-for-public-littering-Goa-environment-minister-says/articleshow/20440507.cms
