Four drunk Delhi tourists attack cop, arrested

Four drunk Delhi tourists attack cop, arrested TNN | Jun 12, 2013, 01.58 AM IST CALANGUTE: A police constable from the Indian Reserve Battalion was assaulted by inebriated tourists on Calangute beach, when he tried to stop them from frolicking in the water during heavy rains on Monday evening. Sources said a group of four tourists from Delhi, all in their late 20s, were enjoying themselves on the beach and attempting to swim in the water despite the sea being very rough, the waves coming quite high, and pouring rain. A lifeguard on the beach tried to warn them not to enter the water since that would endanger their lives, but the tourists threw caution to the wind and continued to frolic in the water. Since his pleas fell on deaf ears, the lifeguard approached IRB constable Sandesh Pednekar who was in the vicinity and requested him to talk to the tourists and bring them out of the water. Pednekar then approached the tourists and tried to reason with them. Enraged at this, one of the tourists allegedly slapped the constable on the face. Lifeguards and others on the beach then rushed to Pednekar's assistance and managed to apprehend the four tourists-Anup Gaur, Ashok Chowdhury, Jaideep Chowdhury and Rahul Kumar. They were then handed over to Calangute police. The incident occurred between 4pm and 5pm. The four were placed under arrest after being charged under Section 353 IPC. PSI Nitin Halarankar is the investigating officer. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Four-drunk-Delhi-tourists-attack-cop-arrested/articleshow/20547167.cms
