Letter- Totally Absurd

Letter To Editor published in GT-27/05/2013 The justification provided by the Russian Ambassador to India (GT, 25/05/2013) for Russians to provide travel services to Russian tourists is absurd. There is little doubt that in several areas of Goa the local taxi operators behave like mafia and extort money from travelers, not only foreigners but also locals, much higher than the prescribed rates laid down by the Government. But that does not mean that Russians have the right to start parallel services in Goa without requisite permissions. This issues must be taken up by the Russian authorities with the Goa Government and a deadline must be set for the State Government to enforce their fare systems, failing which Goa must be blacklisted as a tourism destination by the Russian Government. -Soter D'souza
