Cattle slaughter to start on Monday-ToI

Cattle slaughter to start on Monday TNN | May 11, 2013, 07.19 AM IST PANAJI: Goa Meat Complex (GMC) has decided to restart the slaughter of cattle from Monday. GMC has also decided to file a review petition in the high court of Bombay at Goa to request the court to allow the slaughter of animals brought from outside the state. This comes following criticism from various quarters on the shortage of beef in Goa. GMC chairperson Lyndon Monteiro said, "In accordance with the HC order we will start the slaughter of animal within three days." He added that no illegalities have been committed by GMC. GMC has also decided to import beef from outside the state to cope with the shortage of meat. "If this order is not reviewed then there will be a shortage of beef. To make up the shortage we will import beef from legal slaughter houses from the other parts of India," Monteiro said. GMC has also decided to file a review petition in the HC. "We have appointed senior counsel from Mumbai, Mihir Desai, who will file the review petition," Monteiro said, and added that the advocate has been appointed taking into confidence all the stakeholders in the industry. "Goa council for social justice and peace has recommended this advocate. We will request the court to amend the judgment," Monteiro said. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Cattle-slaughter-to-start-on-Monday/articleshow/19997913.cms
