345 pre-primary schools registered with Goa govt (ToI)

345 pre-primary schools registered with Goa govt Gauree Malkarnekar, TNN | May 31, 2013, 10.24 PM IST PANAJI: The directorate of education has managed to register 345 preprimary schools in Goa finally, after a three-year long effort. The schools were not coming forward voluntarily to register as the registration provided them with no benefits, because preprimary schools do not receive any government aid. With no syllabus prescribed as well, there is nothing to gain from the registration for the schools. The statistics tabled in the state legislative assembly recently show that Bardez has the highest number of pre-primary schools at 91, followed by Salcete which has 80 pre-primary schools. There are 60 and 41 pre-primary schools registered in Tiswadi and Mormugao talukas, respectively. Ponda has 37 registered pre-primary schools, Bicholim has 24, Canacona has 17, Sanguem 16, Quepem 13 and Sattari 10. In Pernem, 11 pre-primary schools have been granted the registrations, while another 31 have been registered under certain conditions. The RTE requires that states should provide free pre-school education to children from the age of three to six as preparation for school education, but Goa is far from even regulating the existing private pre-primary schools in the state. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/345-pre-primary-schools-registered-with-Goa-govt/articleshow/20372356.cms
