Goa has 500 cars for 1000 persons - Herald

Goa has 500 cars for 1000 persons PANJIM: Goa has an average of 500 cars per 1000 persons, way higher than the national average of 18 cars per 1000 persons, putting it on par with developed European countries such as France which has 598 cars per 1000 persons and Germany which has 380 cars per 1000 persons. Statistics revealed by CCP Commissioner Sanjith Rodrigues during his presentation on the Panjim decongestion model, however paints a picture that the situation could only get worse. While in 2006, the State had 4,97,520 cars on its roads, in 2012 that number stood at 7,56,280. It is projected that the State will have more than nine lakh cars. Goa has a higher number of cars partly owing to the number of taxis that dot the State which cater to the floating tourist population. http://www.epaperoheraldo.in/epapermain.aspx?queryed=9&eddate=10/27/2012
