LETTER TO EDITOR PUBLISHED IN GOMANTAK TIMES 28/3/11
We are simply shocked to learn about the existence of a konkani medium primary school in Goa in the late 60's as claimed in a letter under the caption ' Support the fight for Goa and Goans' (GT 26/3/11). Perhaps this historic entity which existed prior to konkani becoming the official language of Goa State has missed the eye of the historian. The author could do a service by disclosing the name of this school so that it can secure its rightful place in the history books.
Further, the parallels drawn to some foreign countries imparting education in their own local language is even more exciting. Can the Konkani language match up with the development of the German and Chinese languages? Goans are still grappling with which dialect and script to adopt for the konkani language.
We cannot endorse the Talibanisation of the konkani script that gets thrust down the throats of Goans by compulsion and not by choice.
