MARCH AGAINST CORRUPTION?

Opinion published in Gomantak Times of 31/01/2011

The 30th of January 2011, the day when Mahatma Gandhiji was martyred, appears to be exploited by some forces to highlight the problem of corruption in this country. If this galaxy of spiritual gurus and prominent activists had imbibed even 50% of the spirit of Gandhiji's teachings, I do not think they would have wasted their time in a meaningless road show in New Delhi.
Going by Gandhiji's teachings, corruption in political governance is just a manifestation of a larger malaise that springs from exploitative and oppressive socio-economic development policies. While keeping the infection at the roots intact, the public is being entertained with plucking of some diseased foliage on the tree of democracy.
It would have been more meaningful if energies on this day were focused on taking Gandhiji's teachings in 'Hind Swaraj' to the masses. That would have thrown light on the actual 'Truth' of India's present agony on its 62nd anniversary as a republic.
