SAVE GOA TO EXTORT?

NOT ALL THOSE WHO WANT TO SAVE GOA ARE HOLY

PANAJI: Three Anjuna locals were arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from a Delhibased builder who is constructing flats there. The police is now investigating the links between the two accused with the drug mafia in the coastal belt.

Acting on a complaint filed by Krishna Kumar Handa, manager of the construction company Nirvana Nest, Anjuna police arrested three locals on Monday evening. The accused are Pradeep Kolwalkar, 43, Pratap Khorjuenkar, 47, and Chandan Khorjuenkar, 37. Handa in his complaint said that since November 6 the accused were trying to extort money from him and continuously asked to be paid .` 15 lakh. "They told the builder that they were locals and if the builder didn't pay them then they would stall his projects. They also claimed that as the builder's new project was coming up close to a temple they would incite people against the project," said police sources. Police sources said that they had also managed to get a stop work order against the builder from the Anjuna panchayat.

However, the same was vacated by the director of panchayats. Later, they even approached the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department and when a town planner of the TCP department visited the site, the trio went along with him and later tried to extort money from the builder again.

The builder then contacted the Anjuna police, who registered a complaint and arrested the accused. "It has been alleged that the trio have been extorting money from builders using their local clout. However, we are investigating the same. Also we have reliable information that two of the accused are involved with the drug mafia in the coastal belt,"added police sources.
