Now, a hotel to float on Mandovi waters - NT

PANAJI: The off-shore casino vessels anchored in River Mandovi will soon have a new neighbour in the form of a floatel, a floating hotel called ‘Royale Floatel,’ which as per highly placed sources would be an ‘entry by invitation’ hotel, and have no provision for gambling.
The Economic Survey 2012-13 tabled in the state assembly during the tenure of the then chief minister Manohar Parrikar had informed about the plans of the government to permit heli-tourism, amphibian aircraft and floatel, which were supposed to turn into reality by the beginning of the tourist season in 2014.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, speaking informally to the pressmen on Tuesday, however, said that neither has such a proposal come before him, nor has he given permission for any floatel, thus indicating that if at all permission was given to the same, it was done during the tenure of his predecessor. “My government has also not given any permission to start a new off-shore casino in Goa,” he added, stating that nevertheless, the existing casinos are a source of revenue for the state.
Meanwhile, the ‘Royale Floatel’ could enter the Mandovi waters any time this or next week.
As per the available information, the South Goa-based Vijai Marine Shipyards designed and carried out the conversion, from a dumb pontoon of the Royale Floatel to a 14-room all-suite, high-end luxury floating hotel. Delivered to the owners in 2013, this floatel is first in its segment in the country under IRS class.
With a capacity for 60 passengers, this 60.2 mt by 13 mt vessel owned by the parent company, Delta Corp Ltd is fitted with a spa featuring Jacuzzi hot-tubs and claims a five star hotel rating with the largest room size in India. Incidentally, the then chief minister Manohar Parrikar had turned down the permission for starting a casino on ship M V Horseshoe owned by Delta Corp Ltd. The company, however, operates two off-shore live gaming casinos – ‘Deltin Royale’ (1200 gaming positions) and ‘Deltin JAQK’ (formerly known as Casino Royale with 500 gaming positions).
The company has informed on its website that, “The first of its kind in Goa, ‘Royale Floatel’ will be an exclusive, all-suite, luxury hotel anchored in the Mandovi river in Goa, with exclusive services for our VIP guests.”
A pair of Cummins NTA855M diesels, each delivering 325 HP at 1,800 RPM through ZF gears to turn 1.1-metre propellers will provide propulsion power for the floating hotel. Furthermore, three more Cummins NTA855DM engines will power 330-kva gensets to meet the vessel’s extensive electrical requirements.
The clientele of the floatel will belong to national and international elite class. It is expected that the vessel will not necessarily be anchored in River Mandovi all the time, and take short rounds on either sides of the river.
