The
timely ejection of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar from State to Union
by the BJP was a clever move to save its leader from public disgrace for
failure to realise the 2012 fantasies of a parivartan in Goa. Though he
managed to temporarily immobilise the scoundrels in Goa's politics, the
rest was probably nothing more than a parivartan in terms of economic
fortunes of the BJP and its supporters. No one can deny the
organisational and managerial skills of Parrikar, but his intolerance to
public participation in policy decisions, weakening of people's
institutions, paralysing of accountability and transparency mechanisms
and his constant U-turns can in no way be a model of good democratic and
secular governance. The Acolytes and Goebbelian team employed to create
a larger than life image of the CM will now be out of business. As a
Goan, I wish Parrikar well in his new avatar as a Union minister.
