PANAJI:
A formal notification on buffer zones in Goa is expected to be issued
by the Union ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) by
mid-September, chief minister Manohar Parrikar said on Wednesday.
The state government has submitted all the relevant documents including maps to MoEF supporting its demand for a 1km buffer zone, Parrikar said. The state government had to submit the documents to MoEF by mid-September.
Last year the state government had recommended a 1 km buffer zone around all four wildlife sanctuaries in Goa. The Centre has agreed on this demand and the notification will be issued soon, Parrikar said.
To a query, Parrikar said the process to declare buffer zones is independent of the exercise held to identify eco-sensitive zones in the Western Ghats. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Notification-on-1km-buffer-zone-by-mid-September/articleshow/41028831.cms
