VASCO: Katem-Baina and Baina beaches are not the only coastal stretches hit by sea erosion.
Venancio Furtado, South Goa collector, who visited Vasco on Saturday, said that a preliminary study conducted by a Pune-based institute recently, found several other stretches of South Goa have been affected.
These coastal areas include Cola in Canacona, Canaguinim in Quepem and some areas in Mormugao taluka itself.
Furtado said, "I will not wait for any disasters to take place. The action plan will have to be implemented before the next monsoon."
Furtado who visited Baina along with the disaster management team, said, "We will decide the further course of action. He said they are not exactly beaches but small stretches along the coast.
In Baina, there was ingression of water into the residential area and hence rehabilitation had to be carried out. Katem-Baina beach is also facing a similar situation since June 11.
As the houses are vulnerable to the sea since they have witnessed increased sea levels, a few residents have already moved out. Sources said that a team from the water resource department will visit the areas and decide what action needs to be taken.
