CCP nod not needed for concretisation of Miramar-Dona Paula road, says Parrikar (NT)

Seeking to end the raging controversy over the concretisation of Miramar-Dona Paula road, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday
PANAJI: Seeking to end the raging controversy over the concretisation of Miramar-Dona Paula road, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that there was no need to take approval from the Corporation of the City of Panaji as the road was under the authority of the public works department.
Addressing a press conference at the state secretariat, he said that the 4.5-kilometre road stretch between Miramar and Dona Paula belonged to the PWD and not the CCP and as such there should not be any fight on the issue.
He also said that he could not take everybody into confidence on each and every issue.
Parrikar  said that a better technology with various provisions for cycling, walking, ducting for power and other utilities would be used in the concretising process and that the road would have a life of 40-50 years.
“This is actual concretising of road and not the process that was used in Cuncolim, which gave way soon after its completion,” he added.
On the issue of bar timings in the state, he said that while the Digambar Kamat government had raised the timing for keeping the bars open till 5 a.m. all over the state, his (Bharatiya Janata Party) government brought it down and has since put the issue on hold and suspended issuance of licences.  “My government will review the decision,” he added. He said that proper decision would be taken on the issue and limited number of bars (between 12-24) located only in coastal areas and five major towns of the state would be granted permission to serve liquors during designated hours provided they meet safety and other requirements to be laid down for obtaining licences.
The government would soon decide parameters for granting licences, he added.
The Chief Minister also informed that his cabinet decided to take back 64,985 square metres of land given to Curchorem-Cacora municipal council and give it to department of science, technology and environment for setting up technologically advanced solid waste management plant on it.
The cabinet also decided to give extension in service to various government officers beyond superannuation and also to extend the contractual appointment of various officials in government service.
