PANJIM: The Goa government has spent Rs 8.5 lakh solely on advertisements and publicity for the ‘Run for Unity’ programme that only seeks to further the political agenda of the BJP, the Nationalist Congress Party, (NCP) has charged.
Speaking at a press conference, NCP spokesperson Trajano D’Mello said that the government is terrorizing those those fail to obey its diktats.
“The government has spent Rs 8.5 lakh from the treasury on the “Run for Unity” programme that they got schools to organize. If this is not spending public money for the betterment of themselves and their party, then what is it?” he questioned adding that the government also used state machinery in the form of KTC buses, school teachers and staff to organize a programme that was promoted by Gujarat Chief Minister Modi.
The NCP also said that its stand that there has been political pressure to ensure that the builders responsible for the Canacona tragedy go scot free has been vindicated by the comments passed by the High Court calling the police investigation into the matter as “shoddy”. The very fact that the builder and contractor have not been arrested shows government’s complicity, Trajano said.
