Enforce taxi meters - Soter

Letter in published in Herald on 27 Feb 2013 Goan roads were much more orderly and peaceful with the taxi operators off the roads. The complaint facility set up by the Directorate of Transport is to be appreciated. The Government needs to enforce the law when it comes to protecting the rights of the public from being violated by rogue operators who rip off those at the mercy of public transporters. There is no option but to enforce meters and make it compulsory for taxi operators to make available fare-tables to the clients on demand. The customer is as much local as the local taxi operators who are blackmailing the government to continue with the present free-for-all system by using the tag of 'safeguards to local livelihood'. The people and the government of Goa have tolerated these unjust and unethical practices enforced by public transport operators for far too long. Soter D'Souza, Socorro
