Parulekar shocker December 29, 2013 Says revelers feel musical parties cannot be enjoyed without drugs TEAM HERALD PANJIM: In a shocking admission, Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar on Saturday stated that “drugs are freely available all over the world and Goa is not an exception”. Parulekar also went on to claim that “music revelers feel that musical parties like Sunburn cannot be enjoyed without consuming alcohol and drugs. We cannot stop them from enjoying.” Parulekar’s statement comes a day after the Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa Police arrested an Indian tourist on charges of possessing drugs at Sunburn, which is underway at Vagator. Spea king to media along the sidelines of the inaugural function of the ITM-Goa India Travel Mart, Parulekar said that though the music festival was declared to be drug-free, drugs were openly sold and consumed at the venue. The tourism minister, however, protected the organizers of the festival. “You cannot blame the organizers…people come there to enjoy,” he commented. “There are restrictions…but it is difficult to control everyone…I have travelled all over the world and seen that drugs is freely available and Goa cannot be an exception,” Parulekar said. The Sunburn festival is expecting more than one lakh footfalls during the three-day event. Goa police had put up various measures, including CCTV cameras and strict frisking of the revelers, while entering the venue.
