Rs 6cr sports complex at Porvorim in offing

PANAJI: The government has finalized plans to build a multi-purpose sports complex at Porvorim on at a cost of 26crore. The Goa state infrastructure development corporation (GSIDC) is expected to issue the work order within a week.
Porvorim independent MLA Rohan Khaunte told TOI that the sports complex will consist of an international standard football ground, swimming pool, diving pool, children's playpool, courts for basketball, table tennis, lawn tennis and squash. The complex will also have a gymnasium, cafeteria and other associated facilities.
The complex will be built on about 20,000 square metres of land belonging to the directorate of panchayats. Khaunte said that once the sports complex is ready, the government has the option of handing it over to the sports authority of Goa (SAG) to maintain it.
Khaunte also said that the government should move faster to issue the work order and that the time limit to complete the project is 18 months from the date of issue of work order. The project is expected to be awarded to Mumbai-based Klassic Constructions, sources said.The complex, first of its kind in Porvorim, is expected to cater to the people of entire Bardez, which lacks such a facility.
