Goa records 48% industrial growth

PANAJI: Goa registered a 48.11% industrial growth in 2012-13 as compared to 2011-12 as a total of 617 micro, small and medium enterprises were registered with the directorate of industries, trade and commerce for setting up new projects in the state. The figure was however only upto February 2013.
According to information provided by the department of industries, trade and commerce, for the same period , 51 micro, small and medium enterprises started commercial production as compared to 48 enterprises in 2011-12, thereby registering a growth of 6.25% during the same period.
Besides, 13 large scale industries have set up their projects in the form of new units or expansion projects in 2012-13.
According to details provided by the department of industries, Tuem industrial estate saw the highest growth. While only five units had registered at Tuem industrial estate in 2011-12,80 units registered at Tuem in 2012-13.While five units had registerd in Bethora in 2011-12, 12 registered in 2012-13; while 13 had registered at Kakoda in 2011-12, 28 registered there in 2012-13.
In all the 19 industrial estates of Goa, 212 units registered in 2011-12. This rose to 314 in 2012-13. The figure rose by 102 units giving a growth of 48.11%, sources said.
