Tourists thrash locals
[Letter To Editor published in Gomantak Times, 29th August 2012]
The recent brawl between some young tourists from Jaipur and the taxi drivers at
Calangute only goes to prove the fact that domestic tourists, particularly from
north India, have scant respect for the Goan people and throw their weight
around. The Government of Goa is responsible for this abuse as it is luring
tourists with the notion that "Goa mein sab kuch chalta hai" and "sab kuch milta
bi hai."
People from other parts of India want to settle in Goa but at their terms and
are only interested in making this place into a stinking Delhi or Mumbai for
their comforts. The right to free movement in any part of India has been assumed
as the fundamental right to abuse any place and anyone in India.
It is high time Goans stand up against such attacks or else there will soon
come a time when tourists will forcibly enter Goan homes and make themselves
comfortable. The bankrupt government of Goa will only sing, "Atithi Devo Bhava!"
