More Marathi than Konkani schools get DoE nod

PANAJI: Some 21 new primary schools, most of them in the Marathi medium, have been approved by the government for the academic year 2012-13.
Directorate of education (DoE) received 78 applications for opening of new Konkani/Marathi primary schools, the deadline for which ended on June 26........

Of 78 applications received by DoE, 21 have been approved
The remaining schools meet the requirements and will be granted approval soon
Most proposals are for opening schools in interior areas of Loliem, Chorao, Korgao, Durbhat, Kavlem
Most applicants are societies or trusts already running schools and have the infrastructure and the required experience
