[More of my views that just do not get published in the Herald.]
The views expressed in the letter 'Use horn sparingly' (Herald, 4/1/11) expects goan drivers to imitate the advanced countries when it comes to the use of the horn. Let us be realistic. In advanced countries, do we have pigs, dogs and cattle on the roads? Do we have pedestrians strolling on the road or darting across the roads at unauthorised locations? Are drivers ever compelled to overtake from the wrong side in those countries? Do those drivers talk away to glory on their mobile phones irrespective of what is going on behind them? Do we have drivers parking vehicles in the middle of a busy lane of the city? Do we have drivers changing lanes at the drop of the hat?
But all this happens in 'amchem Goa' and more than often only a blaring horn will make these thick skinned drivers and pedestrians to budge.
