[A Letter To Editor sent to Herald Goa on 7/11/10 that remains unpublished]
The news report 'Xelpem, Duler facing acute water shortage' (Herald,
7/10/10) is hard to believe. There is enough water flowing in 5-star hotel
rooms, swimming pools, restaurants and industrial units. Even the PWD denies
that anyone is suffering in Bardez taluka due to acute water shortage.
Everything is claimed to be normal except that the power supply and
pipelines behave abnormally when needed to the convenience of the PWD.
Difficult to expose this lie, isn't it?
Massive gated-housing complexes, industries and tourism related activities
continue to get 24x7 water supply. New townships continue to sprout all over
Goa. The very same local people who suffer water shortages and power
interruptions turn round to defend the government's lop-sided development,
claiming that it boosts the economy, generates employment and improves
living conditions. So, why complain? Goans have to decide whether they want
to consume the cake or preserve it. We cannot get both.
